The Lady Falcons’ basketball team took one step forward, two steps back this past week. After handling Hoover High School 65-28 on Jan. 11, CV ran into a buzz saw in the form of the Pasadena schools, much like the CV boys’ team.
Tuesday night at Muir, the Mustangs prevailed 45-34, dropping the Falcons’ record to 10-8 overall, 2-4 in the Pacific League. CV sophomore guard Ella Stepanian scored 11 points to lead the team. Point guard Catherine Davis had 10 points and five rebounds and center Samira Seraji had nine points and five boards.
Muir got 22 points from Emoni Jackson to power the Mustangs. Muir is 6-0 in league and 17-3 overall.
Last Friday at Pasadena, the Bulldogs built an 11-point advantage in the third and won 45-31 after a small comeback from CV. The Falcons twice had the deficit single digits, including just a 37-30 deficit in the fourth quarter, but that’s when Pasadena pulled away. Seraji couldn’t convert opportunities down low, and didn’t score in the fourth. Stepanian scored once in the final frame.
The Lady Falcons have now lost four of their past five games and are sixth in the Pacific League. They play host to Arcadia (11-5, 4-2) on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
