Brand Library Final Tours this Month
The last opportunities to take a tour of the historic Brand Library & Art Center before it closes for renovation in March takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays through February at 10 a.m. Tours are by appointment only.

County Grant Funds Tree Replanting
Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced a $2,500,000 County grant program to replant trees in parts of the San Gabriel Valley devastated by the December 2011 windstorm.
Grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded competitively to cities, other public agencies and nonprofit organizations that partner with public agencies.  Grant guidelines allow for trees to be planted in parks and public open spaces as well as in parkways along residential and commercial streets.
The application deadline has been set for May 31 for applicants to develop comprehensive replanting programs. Grants should be awarded this summer allowing for tree planting as early as this fall or winter. Priority will be given to the grant proposals demonstrating the greatest need.

CVHS Drama Presents Original Play
Crescenta Valley High School students are presenting an original play beginning tonight based on student responses to a faculty survey last year.     “22% Fear” reflects the results of a survey taken by CV high school students last year when 22% admitted they felt harassed or bullied at school. The drama students, under the direction of teacher Brent Beerman, set up an email account and invited students in their classes to anonymously submit their own stories of bullying and harassment. The stories were then crafted into dramatic monologues, with a chorus that comments on the actions described.
The draft script was reviewed by students so that it sounded “true” for high school audiences, and later vetted by school district administration and the board of education.
All Crescenta Valley students will see one of several performances of the play today during their science or social science class periods. The play will then be presented to the general public tonight through Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the CVHS MacDonald Auditorium.
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
