Glendale Fire and Urban Search & Rescue responded to a hiker stranded on the side of a mountain in Deukmejian Wilderness Park at 1:55 this afternoon.
The 57-year-old hiker was walking his dog in the park when apparently his dog and another hiker’s dog became entangled. The victim’s dog slid down the side of the mountain. He went to down rescue his dog and became stranded, said Glendale Battalion Chief Gulli. The other hiker call 911.
The urban search and rescue team sunk anchors into the side of the mountain and rappelled down to bring the victim and his dog to an area where he could be rescued, said Gulli. Los Angeles City Fire helicopter assisted Glendale in a unified command and airlifted the victim from the mountain.
Glendale Fire walked the dog off the mountain, said Battalion Chief Fish.
The hiker had minor injuries and was treated by paramedics on scene and released. The dog was fine and reunited with his owner.
Also responding was Glendale Police Dept., Pasadena Humane Society and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. Montrose Search & Rescue.
