CV stayed steady for the first 10 matches before Glendale made a run to clinch the series.

Falcons’ tennis met the Glendale Nitros on CV’s home turf on Tuesday. This was the season opener as rain cancelled Monday’s match.
In singles, Daniel Cha played only one match, losing to Mike Unanian, Glendale’s number one seed, 6-1.
He was substituted by teammate Greg Manoucheri, but the outcome was no different with Manoucheri losing to Arin Meserkhani and third seeded Nowaf Tokaty, 6-1 and 6-3 respectively.
Albert Chtchyan, a freshman Falcon, was able to pick up the slack for his teammates, winning two of his matches and beating Meserkhani and Tokaty 6-2 and 6-4.
Coach Sarah Wiggins was impressed with Chtchyan’s performance.
“I was very proud of the way he played,” she said.
Unfortunately, fellow Falcon Kim Doil wasn’t able to build on Chtchyan’s performance, losing two of his three matches. His only win came against Tokay, 6-3.
In doubles, the Falcons didn’t fare any better with the exception of Justin Chung and Tim Chong.
“They did a great job, they make a strong doubles team,” said Wiggins.
The pair won all three of their matches. They beat Edgar Hakobyan and Andrew Lingat, 6-4; defeated Rene Gladian and Sam Sarian 6-3; and seemingly saved the best for last sweeping Danny Shafrazian and Alex Yoon, 6-0.
Unfortunately, the other two double teams couldn’t get a win in their three matches. Aren Abrhamian and Patrick Meserkhani lost 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1. Allen Chang and James Ho fought hard in their matches, but couldn’t notch a win. They lost 7-5, 7-6 and 6-4.
“It was neck and neck the whole way,” said Wiggins. “We kinda faded away, they handled it better.”
Coach Wiggins attributed the losses in doubles was due to rushing of shots and some of the players didn’t have experience playing at the varsity level.
As the season goes on, she said she hopes to see more consistency and steadiness from her team.
The Falcons next travel to Hoover on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
