The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad has detonated the grenade twice to render it safe. The device was determined to be a World War II grenade and because of the thickness of the casing, bomb squad members could not determine whether the grenade was active or not.
As a safety precaution, they treated as if it was an active device and detonated it.
There was delay in the procedure, however, as each time they prepared to detonate it, civilians jumped over the fence into the alley.
The area will be closed as the crews clean up the debris.
There were no injuries or damage.
No comment was issued by representatives of Bob Smith Toyota

UPDATE: 6:45 p.m.
Lt. Scott Bickle of the Glendale Police Department has confirmed that a hand grenade was discovered in a vehicle at Bob Smith Toyota.
Some apartment buildings behind the dealership that face the alley have evacuated. The alley has been cordoned off and the sidewalk has been cordoned off by GPD from the classic collision center at Bob Smith Toyota just west of the entry to the Vons shopping center on Foothill Boulevard.

The Glendale Police Department responded to a call of a suspicious device found in a rental vehicle returned to Bob Smith Toyota at 4:31 p.m. today.
At present, the Los Angeles County bomb squad is preparing to investigate the device. Bob Smith Toyota representatives have no comment.
