The Falcons lose to Tornados in boys’ tennis 11-7. With the loss,
CV drops to 0-2 in league matches.

Coming into the match on Tuesday against Hoover, Falcons tennis was looking for a win after a stunning 17-1 defeat at the hands of Valencia on Monday. Things looked bright for the team as they won the doubles column, 5-4.

The No. 1 duo of Justin Chung and Tim Chong set the tone for the rest of the team, beating all their opponents: Alex Karibyan/Arthur Arutyunyan, Yprem Chavdarian/Danny Kim and finally Edward No/Alex Bychkoviak 6-3, 7-5 and 7-6 (7-5) respectively.

The second team, including Patrick Meserkhanian and Greg Manouchehri, fared almost as good as the first. They won two of their three matches, beating Karibyan/Arutyunian and Chavdarian/Kim by the same score of 6-4. Their only loss was against No/Bychkoviak with a score of 6-3.

However the third team, that included Simon Park and Young Paek, played one match and lost to No/Bychkoviak 6-2.

Coach Sarah Wiggins made a substitution for the next two matches putting in Young Park with Allen Chang for the second match against Chavdarian/Kim. Also for the third match, she paired Chang with Kim Doil. But the changes made no difference as both teams lost their matches 6-0 and 6-2.

Despite the three losses, the Falcons were in a winning position. Unfortunately, their singles performance killed that placement.

The Falcons won just one of their nine matches as the Tornados kept piling on one win after another.

The opposition overwhelmed Falcons number one Albert Chtchyan and he lost his matches to Oleg Symonian and Emile Ohanyan 6-1 and 6-2. Adding insult to injury, he twisted his ankle in his third match against Vardan Adzhinyan, losing 6-4.

It was the beginning of an onslaught of defeats.

Aren Abrahamian, the No. 2 player, was outmatched by Simonyan and Ohanyan, losing 6-0 and 6-1. However, he did get the only win for his team in singles. He beat Adzhinyan, 6-3.

While Daniel Cha, the third singles player, couldn’t get a win, he did put up a great fight. He made Simonyan earn his victory, 7-5. Cha lost his other matches 6-2, 6-4 to Ohanyan and Adzhinyan.

After the match, Wiggins felt the team was committing a lot of double faults, commenting that the team wasn’t playing with that much of a will to win. The biggest contributing factor seemed that many members of her new team lacked experience.

The Falcons next travel to Burroughs today at 3:30 p.m.
