Fans at Montrose Park were treated to an outstanding game on Wednesday night, March 14, between the Mustang teams of Foothill Advertising and Jason’s Honda.
Jason’s got out to an early lead, picking up three runs in the top of the first inning on singles by Manny Ortiz, Alex Salvador and Walker Bagget. Foothill pitcher Nick Cook fought through the inning, picking up three strikeouts en route to a nine strikeout performance on the night.
Jason’s was not to be outdone on the mound as Salvador recorded four Ks and only one run in two innings stymieing most of the Foothill batters. Foothill got on the board in the second when Daniel Dermody singled home Jonathan Martin who walked and stole second. Foothill picked up four runs in the third and one in the fourth to go ahead 6-3.
Jason’s picked up three more runs in the top of the fifth on a series of walks.
With the game tied at 6 going into the bottom of the fifth, Foothill’s Ethan “Dutch” Aldtrete reached first with no outs. Gabriel Ordaz followed with a shot that looked like extra bases only to be caught by Alex Salvador and turned into a surprising double play.
Down to their final out, Carsten Sondergaard smacked one to right, but a good play by Yujin Goodwin kept him at first. Sondergaard stole second and advanced to third on the same play. Dermody hit a walk off RBI infield single to score Sondergaard to give Foothill Advertising the 7-6 victory.
