Varsity softball league play started on Thursday, March 22 when the Crescenta Valley Falcons took on the Pasadena Bulldogs.

This was the first time the Lady Falcons took to the field in league play after the passing of longtime Crescenta Valley High School Coach Dan Berry. His years of guidance showed as the girls celebrated a 19-2 victory.

Starting pitcher for CVHS was Olivia Thayer. Hailey Cookson launched the game with a double and scored the first run when Jessica Morena tripled. Tiffany Briscoe came up next and tripled, scoring Morena.

Thayer gave up one hit and had two strike outs in the bottom of the first to end the inning.

Crescenta Valley broke it open in the second with a couple of singles from Brady Sanford and Claire Ortiz. Allison Lacey laid down a squeeze to score Ortiz. Cookson hit her second home run of the day to score Sanford. Briscoe got a hit up the middle and Taylor Hill drew a walk opening the door for Whitney Craig’s triple.  Ortiz singled allowing Craig to cross the plate.

CV went up 10-0 after two innings

Cookson hit her second home run of the game in the third, Morena walked, Briscoe singled, Hill drew another walk and Whitney Craig doubled.

Amber Alsamman got on  with a Pasadena error,  Ortiz walked,  Cookson hit a triple scoring Ortiz and Lacey bunted Cookson in.

Elena Leon entered the game and doubled. Molly Burke doubled right behind her, scoring Leon.

Chloe Fairborther came in as the CV closer to send Crescenta Valley home with their first league win.

Tuesday’s game was cancelled due to a soggy field.
