Bear Update
The 400-plus pound bear captured in Montrose was released yesterday into the Angeles National Forest. He was “groggy and grumpy” as he exited the cage, according to California Department of Fish and Game.
The bear was sighted at about 3 a.m. in the Montrose/La Crescenta area. He was found in the backyard of a home in the 2300 block of Mayfield Avenue around sunrise. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department from Crescenta Valley Station and Fish and Game tranquilized the bear and then transported him to the Angeles National Forest.
Fish and Game officials are 99% certain this is the same bear that has been dining on residents’ garbage in the Glenwood Oaks and Mountain Oaks area in recent weeks.
