Beach Bus Schedule Announced
Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich is again sponsoring the summer beach bus service from La Crescenta/La Cañada Flintridge to Santa Monica Beach.

The summer beach bus service costs $3 per round-trip for children and adults. For senior citizens (age 60 and older) and people with disabilities, the service is $1.50 per round-trip. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a fare-paying parent or guardian.

Passengers can board the summer beach bus every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from June 19 through Aug. 31 and on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. The stop locations are at Two Strike Park at 5107 Rosemont Ave; at the County Library at 2809 Foothill Blvd.; at the Metro bus stop at the intersection of Montrose Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard; and at Memorial Park on Foothill Boulevard, west of La Cañada Boulevard.

CV CAN to Hold Special Olympics
Approximately 150 Special Olympics athletes from the tri-valley region of the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Burbank and Glendale areas are set to compete in the Third Annual CV CAN Games on Saturday, April 21. The track and field event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Susan Osborne field at Crescenta Valley High School, 2900 Community Ave. in La Crescenta.

Athletes of all ages have been training and preparing to compete in various walks, runs, relays, and wheelchair races as well as field events to include softball toss, long jump and shot put. The day’ festivities begin with athlete registration at 8 a.m. There will be awards presentations throughout the day and breakfast and lunch served for all athletes and volunteers. The Crescenta Valley High School band and cheerleaders are also scheduled to perform.

Up to 200 volunteers are needed to help organize and run the competition, serve food and water, as well as to help organize and support the athletes and their families. Anyone interested in volunteering for the event can contact Kim Villa at Kim.Villa@montrosechurch.org.

Relay For Life Hosting Luminaria Ceremony
On April 21 at 7 p.m. there will be a mini-luminaria ceremony in front of the Vietnam War Memorial on the northwest corner of Oceanview and Honolulu in support of the upcoming Foothill Relay for Life. Organizers will have guest speakers and then a short walk will take place around Montrose with candles to celebrate, remember and fight back for those friends, family and loved ones who have lost their fight or are battling cancer.

The public is encouraged to attend this event.

GPD Targets Impaired Drivers with Checkpoint 


Glendale Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/drivers license checkpoint on April 13, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint and looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. They will also be checking to ensure drivers are properly licensed. DUI checkpoints along with regularly scheduled high visibility DUI enforcement serves as a proven deterrent with the goal of removing impaired drivers and heightened awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Please help Glendale PD: Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911!
