(Mrs.) Terry Walker has been chosen by The La Cañada Kiwanis Club Selection Committee as the 2011 La Cañadan of the Year.

According to a release by the committee, Walker’s broad based volunteer activity and community service over many years demonstrate that she is a worthy recipient of this prestigious award.

Walker served as the Chamber’s chairman of the board for three terms and is currently serving as centennial chairman with Jennifer Seastrom. During her time on the board she promoted and instituted many programs and procedures, benefitting the entire community, that are enjoyed today and will for years to come.

The La Cañadan of the Year awards luncheon will be on Wednesday, May 2 at Descanso Gardens, Van de Kamp Hall.

The following local residents were among 1,371 students named to Biola University’s fall 2011 dean’s list for academic excellence:

From La Crescenta Samuel Cho; from La Cañada Flintridge Miya Joo and Anna Tichon.

Biola students are placed on the dean’s list to honor those with a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 of more credit units and whose cumulative grade point average is at least a 3.2. This past fall, 33% of Biola students achieved this academic goal.

Laura Emmons of La Cañada, a sophomore at Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn., earned honors for the winter 2012 academic term.

Natalie Sherif of La Cañada, a sophomore at Gettysburg College, participated in the spring 2012 production of Romeo & Juliet.

Nicholas Kelly of La Crescenta has been named to the dean’s list at Pacific University (Ore.) for fall semester 2011.

Kelly is among 283 of Pacific’s 1,603 undergraduate students to achieve this high academic honor.

To qualify for the dean’s list at Pacific, a student must achieve a term grade-point average 3.70 (4.00 scale) and complete 12 or more graded hours.
