The 27th Annual Challenge Cup/Baker to Vegas Relay Race will be held this weekend. The 120-mile course challenges teams comprised of law enforcement agencies to race from Baker, Calif. to Las Vegas, Nev. The race is divided into 20 legs with each runner averaging six miles.

Chuck Foote, general manager of the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club, Inc. and Larry Moore, LAPD athletic director, founded the race. The race promotes health and friendly competition.

The race is long and it’s going to be hot. The National Weather Service has predicted temperatures to be above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for the weekend from Baker to Vegas.
