Burroughs High School defeated the Falcons in a dominating performance, 15-3, Tuesday at Crescenta Valley.

The Falcons came onto the court still raw from their April 3 loss to Burbank. Burroughs, however, was confident coming into the series with an 8-2 record.

“They’re a solid team,” said CV Head Coach Sarah Wiggins. “They’ve got the best singles in the league.”

The Falcons were overmatched in the singles column coming up against Garrett Auproux, Calvin Fox and Michael Whelan, losing all of their matches.

CV’s Aren Abrahamian, the usual No. 2 player, substituted for Albert Chtchyan for the No. 1 spot. He was no match for his opponents, winning just two games in his three matches, (6-0, 6-1, 6-1).

Substitute Young Peak was playing in the No. 2 spot. He had an even worse outcome than his fellow teammates, winning just one game of his three matches (6-0, 6-1, 6-0).

Doil Kim, the No. 3 player, fared no better than Abrahamian, winning just two games of his three matches (6-0, 6-0, 6-2).

While the Falcons got off to a rocky start in singles, they managed to find some saving grace in doubles.

CV’s Tim Chong/Patrick Meserkhani, the No. 1 team for the past few matches, were dominated by Burroughs, losing 6-2, 6-1. However, they managed to redeem themselves in their final match, beating Sebastian Loremos/Zach Maina, 6-3.

Justin Chong/James Ho, the No. 2 duo, traveled a similar path. They lost to Kevin Hoang/Phillip Lam, Burroughs’ first team, and to their second team of Wen Yoo Lim/Sawyer Patterson, 6-2, 6-1. They got their only win of the three matches from Loremos/Maina.

“[Burroughs has] got the best 1-2 doubles in the league,” said Wiggins.

Falcons Mheir Krikourian/Greg Manoucheri had a tougher time beating their third team, winning 7-6 (7-4) in a tie break. Wiggins attributed their victory against their number three a show of weaknesses. She said the Falcons would pound any weakness found “all day long.” She added that she felt her players were sluggish, coming back from the spring break.

With Tuesday’s loss, the Falcons dropped to 3-7 in the league.

The Falcons next host Pasadena High School today 3:30 p.m.
