National Arbor Day is April 27, but an annual Arbor Day ceremony will be held at Two Strike Park on Saturday, April 28 at 9 a.m.
Entitled “Remember the Past, Plant for the Future,” the event will honor the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars with a tree planted at the park.
The ceremony is being hosted by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, as well as the Crescenta Valley Town Council and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. All are encouraged to attend.
Along with the tree planting ceremony, there will be a host of other activities for attendees including a raffle, planting activities for kids and many giveaways by local merchants and organizations such as plants and other items. Coffee will be donated by Starbucks and cake and cookies from Ralph’s.
It is the 22nd annual Arbor Day event with last year’s event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the La Crescenta Woman’s Club. Arbor Day committee co-chair and emcee of the event Todd Thornbury said that it is hoped that $75,000 can be raised for a new war memorial at Two Strike Park.
“The one currently at Two Strike Park is very small and was built back in 1959,” said Thornbury. “We want an expansion of that.”
