What a full weekend it will be in Montrose! This Sunday, the Montrose Shopping Park will be full of music, food, animals and bouncy houses as it hosts Taste of Montrose, Wags ‘n’ Whiskers and Kids ‘n’ Kritters in the 2300 and 2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue.
The Taste of Montrose is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for the sixth straight year will benefit the CV High School Prom Plus organization. All proceeds from tickets will go toward paying for the after-prom event, held on June 1 at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA.
Tickets for Taste of Montrose are $20. Robin Goldsworthy, the organizer of the event, said she expects about 300 tickets to be sold, which would raise about $6,000. Prom Plus, which costs around $25,000 annually, will include a mechanical bull and possibly a zip line this year.
“The [students] are very excited about attending and we want to make sure we put on a great [Prom Plus] event for them,” Goldsworthy said.
There are more than 20 eateries scheduled for Taste. Patrons will get a wristband from their ticket purchase and will have a chance to eat from designated restaurants on Honolulu, as well as a food court positioned in the street.
“Nobody will leave hungry, that’s for sure,” Goldsworthy said.
Kids ‘n’ Kritters is sponsored by the Montrose Shopping Park Association and is dedicated to activities for children and families in the community. Events for this will include a petting zoo, carnival game booths and “bounce-able” attractions.
“It’s low key, but it’s fun. There are lots of things for kids to do,” said Linda McMenamin, events coordinator for the MSPA.
For the eighth year, the Glendale Humane Society will be hosting its fundraiser, Wags ‘n’ Whiskers as well. Participants in this event can bring their dogs to the Shopping Park for contests and can parade them around for event-goers.
This is all in addition to the Sunday Montrose Harvest Marketplace that features certified and organic products, collectibles, crafts and artwork. The marketplace, Kids ‘n’ Kritters and Wags ‘n’ Whiskers are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s always a fun event,” said McMenamin. “In terms of my involvement with Glendale Humane Society, I love it because I volunteered there for 10 years and it’s always a reunion of all the dogs we adopted out.
“A lot of people form a lasting relationship with the Humane Society.”
