A woman fought back a robbery suspect leaving him bent over and screaming as his attempt to rob her in the Vons Market parking lot failed, according to a Glendale Police report.
On May 8 at about 6 p.m., a woman pulled into the Vons Market parking lot at 2039 Verdugo Blvd. She parked in a space near the west side entrance of the market. When she parked, according to Glendale police, she noticed a white older model vehicle, possibly a Toyota Corolla, with tinted rear windows parked next to her.
A man was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle and the engine was running. The woman reported that as she exited her car the man exited his car at the same time and moved toward her.
As he allegedly approached her, she noticed he had what appeared to be a switchblade-type knife in his right hand. The woman opened her wallet, showing the man that there was no cash and she backed toward her car. The man moved closer to her and closed her vehicle’s front door blocking her from retreating into her car.
The woman reportedly was afraid of what the suspect may do to her, so she kicked him in the groin. The man bent over and screamed in pain, ran back to his vehicle and fled the area.
The suspect is described as a white male, about 35 to 40 years old, 5’8″ tall and having a thin build. He had a nose ring, a brown beard and mustache and was wearing a black beanie with a New York Yankees logo, sunglasses, a black tank top and blue jeans with a hole around the left knee. The woman observed the suspect had a tattoo of green letters with a black outline above the right elbow. She remembers the letters A, R, A as part of the tattoo.
