An 18-year-old Montrose girl was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after a serious traffic collision at Cañada and Country Club on Tuesday at 9:34 p.m.
Glendale police officers arrived on the scene and found a vehicle overturned and items scattered all over the street. The driver’s purse was found in the street. Police allegedly found two prescription bottles; one contained what appeared to be marijuana inside. Officers also reported a strong odor of alcohol from inside the wrecked vehicle.
The driver, Teri Haggar, had apparently lost control of her vehicle and smashed into a tree and electrical post. Two passengers, a man and a woman, were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. All were escorted to Huntington Memorial Hospital.
An officer reported smelling a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Haggar’s breath when he interviewed her at the hospital. While the driver had her injuries tended to by doctors, the officer interviewed the two passengers.
The woman was positioned in the left rear passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the accident. She allegedly told the officer that she was the sister of the other passenger. Apparently her brother and Haggar had picked her up at about 2 p.m. earlier that afternoon. The three spent the day together that included visiting friends. They returned to the driver’s home to watch television. During this time, it was alleged that Haggar and the man, who reportedly said was her boyfriend, began drinking.
They had allegedly been drinking, then got into the vehicle and were having an argument when they began driving to Glendale.
Both passengers said the driver was traveling at too high a rate of speed to take a turn and then lost control of her vehicle traveling southbound on Cañada.
The two passengers and the driver were released from the hospital. Haggar was arrested for DUI and transported to the Glendale Police Department.
