Saturday morning at Montrose Park was the perfect setting for a battle between the top two Mustang (age 9-10) CSA teams.

First place IOTEC, led by Manager Dana Ruf and Coach Troy Cancelosi, was set to take on Jason’s Honda.

Under the leadership of Manager Brock Pauly and Coach Kerry Christoph, second place Jason’s was prepared to make their move in the standings, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

Unfortunately, the game did not come close to the hype. IOTEC, with stellar pitching from Cody Cancelosi, dominated from the get go. Cancelosi finished with three shutout innings, striking out nine batters and walking only three. Sluggers Chase Smith and Mathew Ruf led the IOTEC attack with a combined five-for-five.

Jason’s Honda could only muster two hits for the game, one being a solo blast from Kagen Christoph netting the team’s only run. The game was called after five innings due the mercy rule. It will be exciting to see how both teams do in the final weeks before the playoffs begin.

Current Mustang standings: IOTEC (12-1-2); Jason’s Honda (8-3-2); Rountree Glass (9-5-0); The Patent Office.com (8-7-1); Sansport Photography (6-7-1); Foothill Advertising (3-11); LRM (1-13).
