Optimistic Outlook
Leads to Good Things for All
“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence.” Helen Keller
Wikipedia describes optimism as “an inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events or to anticipate the best possible outcome.” Optimists generally believe that people and events are inherently good, so that most situations work out in the end for the best. Alternatively, some optimists believe that regardless of the external world or situation, one should choose to feel good about it and make the most of it. Do you choose the glass to be half full or half empty? I choose to feel good and believe that the glass is half full. I have confidence that the Crescenta Valley has some of the best residents and business owners anywhere.
It seems no matter where we look, the Crescenta Valley has some great things going on. Last month we had the CV Special Olympics and this past weekend was the Foothills Relay for Life. Coming up on June 1 is Prom Plus and on May 22 is the Crescenta Valley Prayer Breakfast. In the Crescenta Valley it seems you can always find optimistic people doing good for others. You too can get involved to help in some of these great events. It might just help you to be more optimistic.
Prom Plus is looking for volunteers. Prom Plus is the after-prom party that is an alternative to an unchaperoned party. Prom Plus offers a supervised post prom event held at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA.
Berlyn Cosman, a Crescenta Valley High School student, was murdered in 1991 at an unsupervised, post prom hotel party. The response to this tragedy was the creation of this event, Prom Plus, for seniors after the dance, something that would keep our kids local and safe, yet still provide them with a fun time. Since 1993, from midnight to 5 a.m., Prom Plus has provided a variety of things for attendees to do, including a full casino with blackjack, poker, craps, roulette, pool tables, Ping-Pong, photo booths, a DJ, gyroscope, acroflight, Dance Dance Revolution, a mechanical bull, rock climbing wall, balloon artist, arcade games, caricatures, temporary tattoos, music, dancing, food court, prizes plus much more. Admission is included in the purchase of a prom ticket or for those who don’t attend prom, the can pay $20 at the door at midnight. Please visit www.promplus.org to see how you can help with this important event.
We would also love volunteers at the CV Chamber. We need volunteers helping to set up events and also in the office for general office work. We could also use a high school student or two during the summer to help in the office from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. They would get community service hours and learn valuable office skills. Please contact our office for more information.
Important CV Chamber dates: June 13 – Business mixer at Caspian Services.
