City Council, Starbucks Under
Construction, Business Resources
The Honolulu Road Diet was not voted on Tuesday night by the Glendale City Council, but the good news is that the city council is taking into consideration the concerns of the community in the Montrose area. It is great to see the process working. The City of Glendale Planning Department presented their findings of the road diet to the City Council on Tuesday; however, due to two council members not being present, the vote will have to wait for the July 10 meeting.
This meeting was a chance for the community to voice their opinions. City council patiently listened to over 90 minutes of statements for and against the road diet from community members and businesses and still would like to hear more. Councilman Ara Najarian requested that concerned citizens please send their opinions both for and against to him personally so he can make an informed decision. He asked everyone to be very specific. If you have a comment please send it to anajarian@ci.glendale.ca.us.
The Starbucks that is coming to the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose has begun construction. They expect to be under construction for the next three months. As they are working, they are mindful of the community and are making every effort to stay low key and just get the job done. At various times you might see dumpsters or various large pieces of equipment, but do not worry. Starbucks respects the community and will not be leaving dumpsters sitting on the main roads for long periods of time. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Chamber office.
I want to let all the businesses know about two opportunities to help your business that are coming up in the next month. The first one is on “Understanding and Rebuilding Your Credit Score” and is sponsored by the Small Business Administration. This free session is taking place at the SBA L.A. District office in Glendale on Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. The district office is located at 330 N. Brand Blvd., Ste 1200. Registration is recommended. Please contact Patrick Rodriguez at
(818) 552-3222 or Patrick.rodriquez@sba.gov.
The second opportunity is a business expo entitled, “Where’s The Money? Access to Capital Business Expo.” There will be three business workshops, a finance and resource expo, a loan pavilion with one-on-one financial assessments available and a business luncheon with a keynote speaker on how one local business owner found his success. You must register for this event and it is $10. To register, log on to
http://lamoney2012eventbrite.com or call (818) 907-9977.
If you would like additional information on any of these events please contact the Chamber office at (818) 249-7171.
Time is running out! For only $99 you can become a member or renew an outdated chamber membership. Becoming a member ensures your business listing in our 2012-13 directory and a listing in our online digital directory. The directory is a great resource that is used by many people in the community.
