Los Angeles Police are asking for the public’s help with any information concerning the discovery of a burned body on La Tuna Canyon on June 21.

“[The call] came in at 3 a.m. on Thursday, June 21 based on a report of a fire,” said Det. Martinez, LAPD. “[California Highway Patrol] came upon a fire and saw a [deceased] victim.”

They extinguished the fire around the body and waited for LACFD. The fire department secured the hillside. The body was found on the trailhead.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the victim as Cesar Daniel Verdugo, 35, of Los Angeles. There were no vehicles found in the area that were related to the victim.

“If anyone was driving in the area between the hours of darkness to 3 a.m. contact the LAPD homicide department,” Martinez said.

There had been concerns the victim may have been a transient, but Martinez said that was not the case.

“The [death] appears to be foul play,” he said.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, said Ed Winter, L.A. County Coroner’s Office.
