Be Safe on July Fourth

Angeles National Forest Fire Chief James Hall wants to remind visitors and campers that the possession or use of all fireworks, even those deemed “safe and sane”, are prohibited on the forest.

Fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices are prohibited on national forest lands year-round, regardless of weather conditions or holidays.

Patrols will be out in force, regulations are enforced, and violation is punishable as a misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months, or both.

Due to the risk posed by fireworks, some city and county jurisdictions that are adjacent to the forest are joining the Angeles in limiting some roads access.  Glendora Mountain Road and Glendora Ridge Road will be closed to vehicles beginning the morning of Tuesday, July 3, and will reopen the morning of Thursday, July 5.  Gates to Chantry Flats and Chaney Trail will be open form 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Bicycle and foot travel will be allowed on these roads.

The Fire Danger Level is currently “High.” Open wood and charcoal fires are permitted in developed campgrounds and picnic areas only, where fire rings and grills are provided.  Visitors are also reminded to ensure that all fires are extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving them.  Petroleum jelly and propane stoves are permitted in non-developed area with a valid California Campfire Permit.
