Congressman Adam Schiff brought by an American flag for St. Luke’s of the Mountain’s Episcopal Church Sunday morning. But he didn’t stop there. Schiff contacted community leaders who also brought flags representing their heritage to stand aside the American flag.
The flags that were originally on the church property at the corner of Rosemont Avenue and Foothill Boulevard were stolen on the weekend of May 19 and May 20. The flags represented the Open Mind Open Heart philosophy of the church. They were from various countries including Mexico, Korea and Armenia. There were flags that also represented ecology awareness and gay rights. The only flag that the thieves left was the American flag.
“When I heard about the flags being stolen, I contacted the vicar and offered to help,” Schiff said.
He contacted community representatives asking that they show their support by bringing a flag to the church that represented their heritage.
“The flags can be replaced. We have hundreds of these flags,” said Arick Gevorkian, who brought an Armenian flag to the presentation.
Gevorkian echoed what all had said at the ceremony: the community is made of people from all countries and all walks of life.
The flags will fly in the front of the church.
