Deputies from the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station Summer Enforcement Team received information that illegal and highly dangerous fireworks were being sold from and stored at a business establishment in a heavily populated community in the 700 block of South Kern Avenue, East Los Angeles.
Following up on the information, sheriff’s deputies increased patrols in the area. On Monday, July 2, 2012, they saw several boxes of illegal fireworks in front of the establishment.
Continuing their investigation they were also able to see several boxes of illegal fireworks stacked near the rear of the location. Deputies contacted the property owner and detained him pending further investigation.
Some of the illegal fireworks seized were “Devil’s Thrill”, “Triple Break Magnum Shells,” and “Reapers Doom”
34-year old Suspect Victor Nolasco, resident of East Los Angeles, was cited and released for possession of illegal fireworks.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the location in order to transport and dispose of the illegal and dangerous fireworks. The weight of the fireworks was estimated at about 4,000 pounds and a street value of at least $10,000.00.
This marks the third major seizure, totyaling 20,000 pounds of illegal dangerous fireworks by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department this week.
