Romantic period focus of music class

Dr. Ted Stern, professor of music at Glendale Community College, will be conducting off-campus music apprecia­tion classes for adults in the community. This ongoing series is for musicians and non-musicians alike. This semester will cover the Romantic period and the early 20th century.

Dr. Stern weaves music examples with cultural history to increase the lis­tener’s understanding of the evolution of music. Classes are held at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church located at 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose. The classes began Tuesday, Sept. 8 and are held each Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 15. The cost for the 15-week classes is $80. Everyone is wel­come. GUSD Topic of next meeting

The next meeting of the Crescenta Valley Town Council will be focused on the state of the schools/GUSD. Su­perintendent Dr. Michael Escalante is scheduled to attend. Principals from the surrounding schools have been invited though Crescenta Valley High School has back to school that night and will not be able to attend.

There will be a question and answer session. All council business will be done from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The GUSD meeting starts at 7 p. m. and is on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Rosemont Middle School cafeteria, 4725 Rosemont Ave.

The Stinky Cheese Man Cometh

Come join Jon Scieszka, author of “Stinky Cheese Man,” David Shannon author/ illustrator “Duck on a Bike,” Mac Barnett and Adam Rex author/illustra­tor of “Billy Twitters and His Blue Whale Problem” at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the MacDonald Auditorium at Crescenta Valley High School for “Laughing Loudly for Literacy.” A portion of the proceeds to benefit the newly remodeled La Cres­centa Library. Tickets are $20 which in­cludes two tickets and one book or $28, includes three tickets and two books.

Tickets can be purchased at Once Upon A Time bookstore in Montrose. As a courtesy to the publishing sponsors, only books bought at Once Upon A Time for this event will be available for signing.

Pancakes tickets on sale

Crescenta Valley High School and the Crescenta Valley Town Council are put­ting on one of the best tasting fundraisers ever. The annual Pancake Breakfast will be from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Oct. 10 at the CVHS quad. Tickets are being sold by non-profit organizations and school groups.
