First annual mini-bike reunion rolls into town on Saturday Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. A portion of entry fees goes toward the fight to stop teen bullying.
As you may or may not know, the Glendale City Council voted to abandon the Honolulu Road Diet. Their decision was based largely in part to the community response both for and against the road diet. I see this as a victory to the process and a testament to the faith we should have in the City of Glendale that they heard your voices loud and clear. The city council may have jumped ahead of the process at times, but in the end they took a pause to listen to the community and changed their course. They will still be implementing changes to the Trader Joe’s intersection and will be adding a lighted crosswalk at the intersection of Honolulu and Agner avenues in front of the Mountview Retirement Residence. Again, largely due to the need being brought to the attention of the Traffic and Safety Department. Remember, it’s never a failure to challenge an idea or concept; it’s only a failure to remain silent and complain that nothing ever changes.

Let us continue to let our voices be heard and help to maintain the integrity of the Montrose-Verdugo City area that we all enjoy so much.

Don’t miss the first annual mini-bike reunion, the brainchild of Joe Sebergadino, a 20-year resident of the area. The greatest part about the event is that part of the proceeds will go to the fight to stop teen bullying. Joe is working with Crescenta Valley High School on this.

Here is what Joe has to say: “My name is Joe and I have been nuts over mini-bikes since I first got my hands on one as a young kid living in upstate New York. It was an early ’70s chrome Bozo with a red 3.5HP Clinton engine. Riding that mini-bike gave me my first true sense of freedom and independence, not to mention the immediate attention and envy of all the other kids at my apartment complex. I want to share the joy with you. So dust off your vintage mini, Honda CT70 or Z50, and head out to spend the day swapping stories, parts or complete mini-bikes with other nuts like me this Aug. 4!

“We are also going to showcase the newer Honda Ruckus bikes in their own unique corral that will be a real cool opportunity to see how these machines have evolved yet remained the same in the spirit of just having fun. You will have a great time, likely nab some cool gifts and have a real good chance at winning a trophy or award. I promise! Free tube-steaks are gonna be grilled for all paid participants and the park is unreal with lots of shade, clean restrooms and plenty of parking. Bring a cooler, lawn chairs and your friends for an exciting day of up close and personal mini-bike mayhem! You will see some really cool Ol’ Skool minis, Honda Trail 70s and the increasingly popular ‘lil Z50s! We will have a swap meet, a mini-bike corral to buy or sell one and a chance to mingle with other mini-bike fans like us.”
