Glendale AYSO Region 88 (Glendale/La Crescenta) group finished the 2011-12 tournament season with another gold medal at the Freeway Jam tournament held at Duarte/Arcadia soccer fields on July 7 and July 8.

The G16 squad brought in five G19 girls to play this very competitive tournament.

Saturday began with a game against a Valencia team. Although Glendale dominated the game and had many chances to score, the board read 0-0 at the end of 60 minutes.

The second game was against Arcadia in temperatures over 100 degrees. Glendale proved to be the better team, shutting down Arcadia and receiving the maximum allowable 10 points from the match.

On Sunday morning, the girls were up against Glendale’s old rival El Monte. The two teams had met on multiple occasions with El Monte having more wins than Glendale. Glendale took the field aggressively and was able to win a very close 3-2 game.

The last game of the tournament determined whether Valencia would get the gold or Glendale would claim the No. 1 position.

Glendale needed a tie to earn the prize as the girls took on Palos Verdes. PV was playing very tough but ultimately Glendale was able to shut down the PV team, earning the gold medal.

The G16/19 team boasted a strong tournament season, capturing three first place medals out of four tournaments.
