Sheriffs offer strong showing

Safety agencies throughout southern California helped to keep the area safe.

During the recent Station fire, support personnel came from all over Southern Cali­fornia to help keep the foot­hills community secure not only from the fires but from possible looters.

One station that was repre­sented was that of Norwalk.

Sgt. Andrew Thompson of the Norwalk sheriff’s station said that the deputies’ pres­ence was a proactive mea­sure to discourage criminals from thinking that the re­cent evacuations were an op­portunity to raid local homes and automobiles.

The Norwalk deputies num­bered 22 with two sergeants that worked 12 hour shifts.

According to Thompson, there wasn’t any criminal activity in the area that he was aware of since reporting to the Crescenta Valley.

Sgt. Marc Burruss credited the high visibility of law en­forcement with the relative calm within the community during the recent wildfires.

“That’s why we’re here,” said Thompson.
