SUMMER EXHIBIT AT BOLTON HALL
From humble beginnings in Foster Township, Pa. to the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, John McGroarty’s life was interesting and unusual. He was a teacher, journalist, editor, justice of the peace, county treasurer, attorney, author, California’s poet laureate and a U.S. congressman. And Ida – she was the woman behind the man. Quiet and logical, she kept him grounded.

Come see the exhibit about their lives and the amazing contributions made by John McGroarty to our local and state history.

The Museum is open to the public on Sunday and Tuesday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and entrance is free.

MCGROARTY ARTS HOSTING CONCERT
A free concert is being held at McGroarty Arts Center on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 4 p.m.

Bali & Beyond plays Indonesian Gamelan music. The group last performed at McGroarty Arts Center in 2009.

Gamelan refers to the instruments in the ensemble itself, which consists of a unique combination of bronze bar instruments, drums, bamboo flutes, gongs, strings, and sometimes voice. The instruments in a gamelan are an entity, built and tuned to stay together; they are generally not interchangeable with instruments in other gamelans. The music itself can be described as ethereal, tranquil and transportive.

This free outdoor concert will be held in the shaded upper parking area of McGroarty Arts Center, amidst rolling hills, towering oaks, and adjacent to the historic McGroarty home. No reservations necessary. This concert is appropriate for all ages. Limited chairs are available. Guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs or picnic blankets and snacks.

This performance is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and Fifth District Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

McGroarty Arts Center, 7570 McGroarty Terrace, Tujunga
