Lot split proposed on Frances  Avenue

Three local residents have protested to the county a project calling for a lot split and removal of two trees to create two residential parcels on a .38 acre lot at 2748 Frances Ave.

The request from Mark Anderson of Hale Anderson Properties was supposed to be presented to a hearing officer Nov. 17, but was postponed to a hearing Dec. 15.

The protests came from Barbara Leeds and Patrick and Kristine Hartney who complained about the removal of two of nine oak trees on the site and possible encroachment into the space of the other seven.

Leeds also said the addition of another residence on the street would further overtax available parking. Both lots would be about 8,277 square feet in size.

Planning staff recommended approval of the project. Whatever decision is made can be appealed to the regional planning commission and eventually to the Los Angeles County board of supervisors, if the appellant chooses.

Adams recall bid fails

An attempt to force Assemblyman Anthony Adams into a recall election has failed, according to the California Secretary of State.

Adams, whose 59th Assembly District stretches from Hesperia to La Crescenta, was targeted as one of the so-called “Sacramento Six,” Republicans who voted for the state budget.

The recall effort, led by Former Republican State Chairman Bob Schroeder, filed 58,542 signatures, but the state sample showed nearly half were invalid. The proponents needed to collect about 36,000 signatures.

Next Coffee with COPPS planned
The next Coffee with the COPPS will be at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17. Coffee with the COPPS is an opportunity for the public to meet with an officer and discuss concerns and exchange ideas. Coffee Bean &Tea Leaf is located at 3701 Ocean View Blvd. in Montrose.

Glendale Water & Power (GWP) is notifying customers that iWater, Inc., is currently contracted by GWP in a major effort to improve the city’s water system reliability. iWater staff will work within city limits during weekdays until its tasks are completed at the end of January 2010.-
iWater is currently collecting GPS locations (coordinates) for all water meters in anticipation of the AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Smart Grid initiative to change out all water and electrical meters. This also includes a condition assessment of all water meters. Water meters are normally located in the curb and should not require any access to the insides of homes or to backyards. However, buildings such as apartments, condominiums or commercial sites that have meters located in the garage, basement or utility room will require access to these locations. For easy identification, iWater staff will be issued temporary city IDs

Previously, iWater collected GPS locations (coordinates) for approximately 3,400 water distribution valves and 1,200 fire hydrants.
