On second thought, the Crescenta Valley Town Council has had a change of mind with regard on how to deal with its displeasure over the solar panel project by Glendale Unified School District.

During the council business portion of the Town Council meeting Aug. 16, council unanimously voted to rescind a letter they had intended to send to Supervisor Mike Antonovich urging GUSD to communicate better with CV residents. Last month’s meeting had a discussion with unhappy parents over how the district went about installing the panels, which are currently being installed throughout all levels of the local schools. The community has been upset that GUSD didn’t hold meetings about the project until it had begun, and did not come to any CVTC meetings.

Though councilmembers still voiced their displeasure last week over the district’s actions, they decided to not go ahead with the letter.

“I am now requesting council request a private meeting with the district to discuss the solar project and how we can improve communication between GUSD, CVTC and the community in the future,” said councilmember Robbyn Battles.

If they had gone ahead with the letter to Antonovich, it would have been contradictory, said council President Cheryl Davis.

“I felt that by writing a letter to Supervisor Antonovich we were going around the school district and doing exactly what we were unhappy with them doing and that’s not communicating directly with them. That’s why I feel we should have a discussion with them in person,” Davis said.

Davis added that the L.A. County’s office said there’s nothing it can do in regards to pressing GUSD, and that it would be better to ease communication with the district personally.

“I don’t know what’s on the horizon, but we want to keep those lines of communication open [with the district],” Davis said.

Dennis Erdman, general manager of the CV Water District, was on hand to announce a public hearing meeting on Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the district’s office over proposed water rates. He said the board of directors is considering an increase in the sur rates from $27.50 to $29.55.

The proposal has to do with the increased cost of waste water management. Over the past several years, Erdman said the district’s reserve money had filled those increasing costs, but the time has come when the reserves are running out. The district’s office is at 2700 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.

Pedrini’s Music is having its 66th anniversary party on Sept. 23 from noon to 8 p.m. There will be food trucks and free music lessons given by the instructors.

The next CVTC Youth Council meeting is today at the CV Sheriff’s Station Community Room at 7 p.m.

The next town council meeting is scheduled for Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. L.A. County Public Works and CHP have been invited to talk about speed limits, enforcement and traffic and safety.
