Michael Torrey Wayland

June 14, 1942 – Sept. 15, 2012
Michael Torrey Wayland, age 70, of O’Fallon, Ill., born June 14, 1942 in Berkeley, Calif., passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 15 at his residence.

A resident of O’Fallon since 2010, Mr. Wayland was a trial attorney and had formerly practiced law in California. He graduated from UC Berkeley and UC Hastings College of the Law.

An avid competitive ice dancer, he was smitten with his training partner and was determined to win her heart. Forty-three years ago he did, and together they continued to dance professionally for many years, earning various titles and awards. They were world members, representing the United States in the Ice Dancing World Professionals Championship in Spain.

He started a family-owned business, Dance House, in 1996 and was teacher and choreographer. Daughters Keli, Lacie, and Tiffiny grew up dancing and competing with Dad supporting them the entire way; he never missed an event. Not only was he the biggest supporter of his daughters, but was there for every dancer in the studio as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents Torrey de Fremery Wayland and Norman Borie Wayland.

Surviving are his wife Barbara Jeanne, nee McEvoy, Wayland of O’Fallon; three daughters Keli (Jason) Lesker of O’Fallon; Lacie Wayland of Montrose, Calif.; and Tiffiny Wayland of O’Fallon; grandchildren Tristan and Lorali Lesker; father-in-law Charles McEvoy of O’Fallon; and brothers Bruce and Rich Wayland.
