Matt Catinbub and the Glendale Pops are set to return to the Alex Theatre for a second season beginning Oct. 13. The show will also feature local musician Miles Mosley on bass, who has collaborated with artists such as Christina Aguilera, Joni Mitchell, and Gnarls Barkley, among others.
The Glendale Pops second season starts on the foundation of an initial season that garnered wide praise for its musicianship from public and press alike. At its helm is the charismatic Matt Catingub whose mastery of several musical instruments – including voice – has often been as noteworthy as the performances of his guests. His past musical collaborators have included Rosemary Clooney, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, James Ingram, The Righteous Brothers and Dave Koz.
The Oct. 13 show will be an exploration of funk, soul and jazz music that plays well to the strengths of the Pops.
That versatility has been one of the Pops’ cornerstones of its success, noted Catinbub.
“This is something very different, very intimate, very personal and certainly unforgettable,” he said. “Most Pops orchestras are subsets of classical orchestras. But the Glendale Pops is just Pops. This gives us the flexibility to hand pick our musicians, based on the show rather than tailoring our show to the musicians. I think this is the future of Pops and we are leading the charge.”
Further performances for the 2012-13 season will follow in December, February, and May. Tickets range from $15 to $60. For more information, visit www.alextheatre.org or www.glendalepops.org or call (818) 243-7700, ext. 216.
