Glendale Men Come Together to Fight Breast Cancer

Glendale Adventist Medical Center – GAMC – has again gathered an army of men to kick-off the Army of Pink campaign during the month of October. In an effort to increase awareness about breast cancer and local resources at the hospital, GAMC is partnering with prominent community members in Glendale to help make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.

The brave soldiers for 2012 are Bob Doyle, deputy fire chief, Glendale Fire Department; Carl Povilaitis, captain, Glendale Police Department; Frank Quintero, mayor, City of Glendale; Vicken Sepilian, MD, president, Armenian American Medical Society; Richard Sheehan, Ed.D, superintendent, Glendale Unified School District; and Larry Caviness, president, Southern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventist.

Army of Pink captain emcee Paula Devine, past-chair Commission on the Status of Women, will lead the Army of Pink campaign to get the community involved in the online voting initiative to increase awareness about breast cancer.

Each candidate will be provided with their own campaign materials, a video, flyers to hand out at events, dog tags, life-sized cardboard cutouts and other creative pink collateral material.

Voting polls will be open online from Oct. 1 through Oct. 26.

Everyone is encouraged to vote online at www.GlendaleAdventist.com/ArmyOfPink for the candidate that they think is best spreading the word about breast cancer disease awareness and at the same time looks best in pink. The winning candidate will have the GAMC Cancer Center waiting room named after them. The winner will also be invited to ride on the 2013 City of Glendale Tournament of Roses float.

The community is also invited to help celebrate the 2012 Army of Pink Campaign by attending the “Marching to the Power of Pink” kick-off event presented by Dr. Norick Bogossian Cancer Care Guild and the Guild at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. Participants will be the first to preview the 2013 Tournament of Roses floats, meet the Army of Pink candidates, purchase raffle tickets to ride on the City of Glendale Rose Float and win an iPad.

The kick-off event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rosemont Pavilion in Pasadena. Celebrate with family friendly music and entertainment. Visit www.GlendaleAdventist.com/PowerOfPink for more details.
