SETS IN STEPS SQUARE DANCE CLUB
The Sets in Steps Square Dance Club is sponsoring a new square dance class for beginners or those who want to refresh their dancing on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the La Cañada Community Center. The first three dances are free.

To introduce the class, there will be a social time with hors d’oeuvres before the instruction. John Hyde is caller. It is better to have couples, but singles are welcome also. The price is $6 cash per week. This is a fun way to get some exercise.

DBSA OFFERS SUPPORT GROUP
Depression Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) has a support group meeting every Tuesday at Vallejo Drive Adventist Church in Glendale every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. DBSA provides hope, help, and support through peer-based, recovery oriented empowering services, and resources when people need them and how they need to receive them. Support groups bring people together who understand the up, downs and frustrations of depression or bipolar disorder. DBSA support groups are a safe confidential place to talk about and overcome the day-to-day and long-term challenges of mental health issues.

MUSIC APPRECIATION CLASS
Dr. Ted Stern, professor of music at Glendale Community College, will again conduct his off-campus music appreciation classes for adults in the community. This ongoing series is for musicians and non-musicians alike who appreciate the history of music.  This semester will address the topic: “An In-depth Look at Six Composers – Monteverdi, Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Verdi and Stravinsky.”

Each semester offers new and interesting information. Dr. Stern weaves music examples with cultural history to increase our understanding of the evolution of music. Classes are held at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, located at 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose. The classes are held each Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., continuing through Dec. 18. PRO ITALIA PRESENTS CAFÉ DESMO, ITALIAN MOTORCYCLE EVENT
Lovers of Italian motorcycles will be awed by the range of European naked bikes, Ducatis, Aprilias, Moto Guzzis, MV Agustas, Triumphs and café racers on display at Café Desmo, California’s foremost bike event dedicated to European sporting machines, on Sunday, Sep. 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pro Italia Motorcycles, 3319 N. Verdugo Road in Glendale. Café Desmo is free and open to the public.

SMITHS TO HOST LCFTRA SEPTEMBER HAPPY HOUR
The next Happy Hour of the La Cañada-Flintridge Tournament of Roses committee will be at the home of Nana and Joel Smith at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. Learn about the La Cañada Flintridge Rose Float construction and parade plans for New Year’s Day. Anyone over 18 is invited to attend, and no reservation is required. Just bring an appetizer to share and enjoy a fun, casual evening with your friends, old and new, all in support of LCFTRA’s 2013 Rose Parade float – Dino-Soar!

GHS HOLDS ARCHITECTURAL TOUR
The Glendale Historical Society annual architectural tour is on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and celebrates Glendale’s Golden Age. Five period revival homes and a charming storybook courtyard, including the work of celebrated “Snow White Cottages” builder Ben Sherwood, are featured. It’s recommend that participants start the tour early to have enough time to view each home.

Tour begins at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale. FastFrame of the Foothills in La Cañada will be donating framed posters of this event that will be raffled.

Tickets for the home tour are now on sale and are available through Sept. 26 at the “early bird” discount price of $22 each for TGHS members ($32 each for non-members). Tickets are being sold through Glendale Arts online, the Glendale arts box offices at the Alex Theatre, Americana at Brand and at Glendale Community College. Tickets will be on sale at the Alex Theatre on the day of the tour at 10:30 a.m.

ROSE LEAF RAGTIME CLUB ANNOUNCES NEW LOCATION
The next meeting of the Rose Leaf Club is on Sunday, Sept. 30 at Wang’s Place, 120 E. Lemon Ave., Monrovia, in the old town area. After stepping into the foyer, enter the separate meeting room through the door to the right. The meeting time will continue as before, the last Sunday of the month from 1 p.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m. Owner Jeffrey Wang provides a Chinese buffet at a reasonable price. Free parking is available in several adjoining city-owned lots.

YWCA AND THE JOINT TEAM UP TO STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
October is domestic violence awareness month and The YWCA in Glendale is teaming up with neighboring business, The Joint…the chiropractic place, to give victims of domestic violence a chance to break the cycle. On Oct. 1, the YWCA Glendale will kick off its first ever Facebook Financial Literacy campaign (a campaign aimed at raising $5,000 to purchase educational resources to implement the program) at the grand opening of The Joint, located at 350 N. Glendale Ave. in Glendale. The Joint, a chiropractic franchise, will donate 50% of all proceeds made between the hours of 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Oct. 1 to the campaign.

The grand opening of The Joint and launch of the Facebook Financial Literacy Campaign will be held at 350 N. Glendale Ave., Unit A in Glendale from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a celebration including refreshments, entertainment and complimentary adjustments from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC
Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10-12:40 p.m. in the restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation).

The next concert is on Oct. 3 and features The Kewa Ensemble who will perform string quartets by Debussy and Puccini. This will be a celebration of Claude Debussy’s 150th birthday (sesquicentennial year).

CHARCOAL ARTIST MILAZZO AT VHAA
Verdugo Hills Art Association hosts guest artist Joe Milazzo for a demonstration event on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the La Cañada Community Center. The meeting is open to all.

Joe Milazzo has a style of delicate intricate lines and attention to detail that make him a sought after artist whose works are collected internationally for commissions of prominent figures for public and private collections. He will be demonstrating drawing with charcoal at the La Cañada Community Center. Charcoal drawing allows Milazzo to create a much larger scale drawing while keeping the same technique and allowing the drawing to become more dramatic.
