A 14-year-old boy is in stable condition after being struck by a motorcycle while he was crossing Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada.

The boy was struck on Friday night as he walked across Foothill Boulevard at Chevy Chase Drive.

“It happened about 10 p.m. [Friday],” said Lt. Tuinstera of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s station.

The boy was transferred to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. The victim was carried about 50 feet before becoming dislodged from the motorcycle’s windshield and fell to the street. The motorcyclist struck the center median and the rider was thrown to the street. L.A. County Fire Dept. paramedics from Station 19 arrived on scene. Both the motorcyclist and pedestrian were transported to Huntington Hospital. The pedestrian suffered a broken femur and collapsed lung according to the sheriff’s report.

“The [driver] of the motorcycle was treated and released from the hospital,” said Sgt. Gerhard Ogurek, traffic sergeant at the CV Station.

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s traffic division is investigating the accident.

Witnesses reported the boy had crossed against the red traffic light, said Ogurek.

“He may have been with friends but separated [at one point]. He was [apparently] crossing [the street] alone,” Ogurek said.

He added that, during the initial investigation, it did not appear speed from the motorcycle driver was a factor.

“There were no skid marks,” he said.

However, Ogurek pointed out the investigation is ongoing and he is continuing to interview witnesses.
