The Crescenta Valley High girls’ volleyball team overcame a three-game losing streak by claiming victory in their last two Pacific League matches against Muir last Thursday and Hoover on Tuesday.

The Falcons, who have a young team this year with just three seniors, struggled in the start of league play but have since turned their game around and have sights on the playoffs.

“I know we have gotten off to a slow start but we definitely have a chance,” said head coach Jen Ku Lee. “Hoover beat Pasadena, we lost to Pasadena, but we just beat Hoover. The league is very competitive and it’s anybody’s game.”

Crescenta Valley, now 2-4 in league play, took the first two games 25-21 and 25-23 before finishing off the Tornadoes 25-21 at CVHS. Senior outside hitter Allison Reik had nine kills for the Falcons, while sophomore outside hitter Emmie Walker added another eight.

The Falcons maintained momentum throughout and didn’t let a handful of service errors on their part derail the team’s energy.

“My three seniors are really important: Allison, Noel Wong and Kasieh Cases,” Lee said. “But Emmie is coming into her own, she’s pretty amazing. With more experience she is getting better and better.”

The team ended last season with a 6-6 league record, 8-16 overall, and lost their first playoff match to Camarillo. The Falcons are looking to improve this season and maintain a high level of play regardless of their competition.

“We have a tendency to play down to the competition,” Lee said. “We need to play at our level and keep aggressive defense. We can do it.”

The Falcons travel to Arcadia (3-1) to take on the Apaches today at 3:30 p.m.
