At www.entrepreneur.com, there is an article in which Richard Branson is interviewed on “Why Volunteer Work is Important for Business Leaders.” Richard Branson states, “When people ask me if a business can balance making a difference in people’s lives with making a profit for the company, the point that I always try to make is that the two are not exclusive. Business leaders should not focus solely on earning money. They must remember that a healthy profit means that a community supports and appreciates the products and services a business offers, and also how that business is managed. If you are looking to change how you do business, the first step is to integrate great values into your business plan. Any company can do this, no matter what its size, location, or how long it has been in business. Small businesses can make a difference locally, bigger companies can make a difference nationally, and even bigger companies can make a difference internationally.”

On Thursday, Oct. 25, we are honoring those that make a difference at our annual Recognition Banquet held at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. The honorees that we are celebrating for the great work they do in the Crescenta Valley are:

Woman of the Year – Mercy Velazquez, Organization of the Year – Foothills Relay for Life, Business of the Year – Caspian Services, Inc., Educator of the Year –Grant Clark from Crescenta Valley High School, Man of the Year – Aldo Mascheroni, Volunteer of the Year – Robert Barney, Beautification Award – Tickle Tree Café, and Student of the Year – Guy Burstein from Clark Magnet High School.

We are also honoring our service heroes, California Highway Patrol – Officer Kevin Denmon, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. – Deputy Jeffrey Martin, Glendale Police Dept. Officer – Jeff Rivas and Los Angeles County Fire Dept. – Captain Don Kunitomi. These are all people that consistently give their all to make the Crescenta Valley a better place to live and work.

If you would like to join us on Oct. 25 at the dinner to recognize these fine individuals, please call or email the chamber and we would be happy to send you more information. Thank you to those listed above and to the unsung additional heroes that work towards the common goal of improving our town.
