A Los Angeles man was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle and being in possession of stolen items at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 30 in the 2600 block of Mayfield Avenue.

While on patrol a sheriff’s detective driving eastbound on Montrose Avenue noticed a Honda Civic had made several traffic violations including not stopping at a signal. The driver, later identified as Ragwel Sanchez, 24, of Los Angeles, turned on La Crescenta Avenue then onto Mayfield Avenue traveling at a high rate of speed. The detective followed. Sanchez then pulled over and exited the vehicle. The detective stopped him and then noticed the steering column of the vehicle the suspect was driving was completely exposed. Sanchez allegedly told the officer the car belonged to a friend but couldn’t remember the friend’s name. The detective discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from the L. A. area. After an investigation several items were found in the vehicle including a Crescenta Valley High School polo team championship ring. The item was allegedly reported stolen from a vehicle in La Cañada. Several other items were found that matched the description of reported stolen property.

The sheriff’s station is still in possession of a few items found during the search of the vehicle that have not been claimed. Anyone who was a victim of a vehicle burglary between only Nov. 29-30 and have not yet been contacted by detectives at the sheriff’s station are asked to contact Sgt. Ray Harley at (818) 248-3464.
