John was born June 18, 1927 in Flushing, N.Y. and went to his final resting place on Oct. 23 in Yuma, Ariz.
Married to Phyllis Quimby in 1955, they relocated to Glendale in 1962 where they raised three daughters. His career included teaching science at Clark Jr. High School and Toll Jr. High School with the Glendale Unified School District. Being an educator was a lifelong passion of John’s who was always striving to find the best or most creative way to engage his students. He embraced the motto, “Education is taking what you learned yesterday and putting it to use today.”
He had a wide variety of interests, but mostly enjoyed golfing, bowling, square dancing, RV camping and photography.
Following his retirement, he continued consulting and teaching in the elementary grades and reading/play acting for the pre-schoolers at his church where he dedicated his time, talent and treasure for many years.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis; his daughters Nancy, Wendy and Amy; three grandchildren – Kristen, Emily and Jack; as well as a sister, Arline, and a foreign exchange student “daughter” Mary Gianettoni of Switzerland.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church at 2902 Montrose Ave. in La Crescenta on Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. where he was an active member.
