Devin Grab and Chancellor Ramirez of the Rose Bowl Water Polo Club’s (RBWPC) 18 & under teams at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center (RBAC) will compete on team USA in the 2012 FINA World Youth Water Polo Championships in Perth, Australia. The men’s tournament will take place from Dec. 1 through Dec. 9. Teams from 20 nations will be represented and the women’s tournament will take place from Dec. 2 through Dec. 9 and teams from 16 nations will be represented.
The USA team traveling to Australia is comprised of players selected from the ODP, a feeder system for USA water polo’s national teams. The USA men’s team is seated in Group A for the tournament along with Hungary, Egypt and Canada while the USA women’s team is seated in Group C along with Hungary, Italy and India.
Both Grab, a junior at South Pasadena High School, and Ramirez, a senior at Loyola High School, have experience competing internationally through their involvement with the ODP.
“I’m looking forward to representing our country for a fifth consecutive year, and look forward to playing with our nation’s best youth water polo players in Perth,” Ramirez said.
Grab has not competed at an international level this prestigious before, but has played in the UANA Junior Pan American Championships twice, earning a silver in 2011 and gold in 2012.
“I’m very excited and a little nervous, too, because I’ve never played as a high as world championships before,” Grab said. “But I’m really grateful for the experience and excited to be with my friends and win my second gold of the year.”
RBWPC Head Coach Dan Leyson is proud to see two program players represented in such a high level of competition.
