UPDATE: The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the fatal victim of Saturday’s car accident. Daniel Kaplan, 17, of Glendale died due to blunt force trauma after the vehicle he was a passenger in collided with a cement guardrail on La Tuna Canyon, a coroner spokesman said.

A 17-year-old male who was a passenger in a vehicle died Saturday night after the driver, Arash Sanei, 19, of Montrose lost control of his 2005 Lexus on La Tuna Canyon Road about a mile from the Foothill (210) freeway. The vehicle spun out of control and slammed into a cement guardrail.
A second passenger Steven Alonso, 20, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital, said Sgt. Jones, Los Angeles Police Department.
There was no indication of driving under the influence. It appeared that speed and wet roads may have been a factor in the accident, Jones said.
The name of the deceased is being held pending family notification.
The accident occurred at about 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.
