A car fire snarled traffic along Pennsylania Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
At about 4:25 p.m., Glendale Fire Dept. responded to a call concerning a vehicle fire on Pennsylvania Avenue just north of the Foothill (210) freeway off ramp.
The fire originated in the trunk of the vehicle. The driver is a construction worker who was traveling northbound on Pennsylvania Avenue on his way home when he noticed smoke coming out of the trunk of his car. The driver pulled over and discovered the entire trunk in flames.
Firefighters knocked the fire down in a matter of seconds said Capt. Craig Skidmore.
At this point, said Skidmore, it appeared to be either an electrical issue or cigarette debris could have accidentally made its way into the trunk.
Traffic was backed up for about an hour on Pennsylvania Avenue. All vehicles traveling northbound on Pennsylvania Avenue were diverted onto the westbound Foothill (210) freeway causing traffic issues on nearby neighborhood streets.
