Weather in the Foothills

“Unless we make Christmas an occasion to share our blessings, all the snow in Alaska won’t make it ‘white.’” – Bing Crosby

Last week, Mt. Wilson had a light dusting of snow at its highest elevations. Short-lived perhaps but it brought the same delight as the first snows in other regions of the country. And our weather continues to cooperate with the expectations of the season.
Rain showers, cold days and near freezing nights lead us to Christmas Day. Our college son was greeted by snow flurries on the Grapevine on his journey home from Humboldt University. With family now together, preparations for the holiday are underway.
In light of the tragedy in Connecticut, the anticipated “most wonderful time of the year” has become a time of reflection and sorrow.
With this in mind, candles and nativities adorn our home to welcome Christmas Day.

Clear skies, after a series of storms moved through the foothills, this week.
High wind warning, with gusts reaching 60 mph, followed close behind.
Risk factor for sleigh travel – minimal, as conditions calm by the eve of the 24th/ 25th.
Inland valley temperatures, including CV, may drop below freezing during this time.
Saturday and Sunday approach with rain in the forecast.
Timing of this storm system and its rain potential will soon be determined.
Mostly cloudy and cold on Christmas Eve with a slight chance of showers.
And during “the night,” the skies clear allowing the starlight to shine down upon us.
Sunrise at 6:57 a.m. on Christmas Day with a promise of another beautiful day.

May light fill our hearts during these dark days of winter with blessings of Christmas.
