The La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce held its 100th annual association meeting and election of officers at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy on Dec. 11. Joel Peterson, chairman of the nominating committee and immediate past chairman of the board, presented the chamber’s slate of officers and directors for 2013.
The chamber will mark its 101st installation when the new officers are installed in 2013, including the chamber’s incumbent chairman of the board Wes Seastrom, who was re-elected for a second term.
The officers for 2013 are: YMCA director Kim Beattie, chairman elect and business programs; Taix Workout Studio owner Linda Taix-Paccone, vice president of ways and means; Allen Lund Company’s Eddie Lund, of vice president of community programs; Hernandez Schaedel & Associates attorney Jack Shaedel, vice president of regional legislative programs; Katherine Markgraf, secretary; and Tammy Smith, chief financial officer.
Chamber 2013 business directors are: Rob Fuelling, of IDS Real Estate Group; Suzanne Hart, of Wells Fargo Bank; Leonard LaBella, of Verdugo Hills Hospital; Patrick Liddell, of Melby & Anderson; Eddie Lund, of Allen Lund Company; Greg Powell of Architecture Plus; Wes Seastrom, of Podley Properties; Sue Stranger of Adobe Design; Linda Taix-Paccone, of Taix Workout Studio; Jackie Walls, of Jackie’s Hair a Go Go; and Dr. Rion Zimmerman.
Directors at large are: Dr. Tony Chahine, of La Cañada Eye Care; Caroline Craven, of Eat Shop Play; Sister Carolyn Mccormack, of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy; Erik Ovanspour, of Printefex; Joel Peterson, of Pintoresco; Nick Sarkisian, of NASA Services; Jack Schaedel, of Hernandez, Schaedel & Associates; and Terry Sneed, of T.L. Sneed, Inc.
Residential directors are: Kim Beattie, Katherine Markgraf, Tammy Smith, and Assemblymember Anthony Portantino.
Though some business was conducted, it was mostly an evening of celebration for the chamber, as past and present officers of the organization celebrated 100 years of service to the community while enjoying appetizers and beverages.
“We’ve evolved over the decades to keep up with the trends and issues in the community,” said chamber CEO and President Pat Anderson. “That is the basis of our health and our vitality today.”
Over the past 100 years, the chamber has grown from an organization that once saw a city with wide open spaces populated by ranchers and local merchants to a city that is now more retail-focused.
La Cañada Flintridge Councilman and former Mayor Dave Spence attributes the growth of the city to the chamber’s efforts over the years in being the voice of business, allowing them to grow by promoting collaboration, and supporting new building projects.
“The chamber has been a huge supporter of increasing business activity in the community,” said Spence, a 40-year resident of La Cañada Flintridge.
The new officers will take their oath of office during the chamber’s installation and community service awards dinner on Jan. 17, 2013 at La Cañada Country Club.
