GWP EXTENDS
COMMUNITY INVITATION
To begin Glendale Water & Power’s
(GWP) commemoration of 100 years of service
in Glendale, its customers are invited
to a reception from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
daily from Dec. 14 through Dec. 17 in the
Perkin’s customer service lobby located at
141 N. Glendale Ave. Refreshments will be
served and information will be available
on programs to help save money on utility
bills and ways to protect the environment.

PUBLIC INVITED
TO SWEARING IN
The public is invited to join the CV Town
Council on Thursday, Dec. 17 as they celebrate
the season and welcome the new
year. The evening will begin with an abbreviated
CVTC general meeting starting at 7
p.m. The new 2010 council members and
officers will be sworn into office by Supervisor
Antonovich followed by the council
thanking current president Steve Pierce
and council members Liz Arnold and Joyce
Lauterback who will not be continuing as
council members. After the meeting all are
welcome to stay for an informal holiday
party with snacks, desserts and drinks and
a celebration of the holidays with the Town
Council and their family and friends. The
festivities take place at Rosemont Middle
School cafeteria, 4725 Rosemont Ave.

FOOD AND TOY
DRIVE UNDERWAY
Local residents will once again find barrels
for the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station
Annual Food and Toy drive at local
stores. Those who wish to donate can place
can goods or unwrapped new toys in the
barrels that are monitored by volunteers
from the Sheriff’s Station. Donated food
and toys are distributed to Foothill families
in need.

OWNER WANTS
TO BUILD BEDROOM
Sparr Heights resident Peter Hebert is
asking for two variances from the city of
Glendale to allow a second story addition
and addition of 871 square feet to his home
at 3624 Roselawn Ave.
The 1,087 square foot home was built in
1937. Hebert explained to zoning administrator
Edith Fuentes in a hearing last
week that he planned to build a master
bedroom suite and legalize the size of an
existing family room.
One of the variances sought was to not
add space to an attached single family garage
near the front of the property. Fuentes
asked if he had children; Hebert said he
has two, ages 4 and 6. “They won’t be driving
soon,” Fuentes observed.
Hebert’s wife Victoria said the family can
park two cars in the existing garage, which
is three feet short of two-car width.
The other variance requested was on the
required setbacks. Hebert said both of the
non-conforming setbacks are buffered with
driveways for the adjoining property. The
owner said most neighbors seem to be in
support of the plan, though the neighbor
immediately to the north expressed concern
about view issues with a second story.
Planning department official Brad Collins
said concerns about street parking
and traffic were also expressed to him. The
staff report opposes the garage variance.
Fuentes took the issue under advisement
and will issue a ruling.
