Open House at the Y
On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA will be hosting an open house from 10 a.m. t 2 p.m.  The community is welcome to try a class, go for a swim, workout in the wellness center or simply enjoy or social patio room with a cup of free coffee.

A free gift will be give to all who join the Y family with a membership at the open house.

The Crescenta-Cañada Y is located at 1930 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada.

Fire at Photography Studio
Los Angeles County Fire Dept. responded to reports of smoke inside Bronson Photography in the 2000 block of Montrose Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

“We smelled smoke and started looking around at the walls,” said Bob Bronson, owner.

When firefighters arrived, they determined the source of the smoke was from the south side of the building. They broke into the exterior wall and found the cause of the fire, which appears to be electrical in nature, according to Capt. Houser of Station 63.

There’s no damage to anything inside,” said Bronson. Because there was no electricity after the fire, sittings were cancelled for Saturday.

The incident did not slow the local photography studio down, they were open shortly after the fire.

LAcoFire Stations 19, 63, and 82 responded to the afternoon call. Glendale Fire was called to assist, but was released.

Relay for Life Kickoff
The kickoff for this year’s Foothills Relay for Life will be on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. on the northwest corner of Honolulu Avenue and Oceanview Boulevard in Montrose in front of the Vietnam War Memorial. Speakers include Jonetta Green, a Hero of Hope from the American Cancer Society. There will be a “mini luminaria” ceremony as well.

All are encouraged to come out and support this event.

Boys Scouts Holding Council Dinner
The Verdugo Hills Council Boy Scouts of America cordially is hosting the Annual Council Dinner and 2012 Silver Beaver Recognition on Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. at Embassy Suites in Glendale.
