Montrose Search and Rescue team members discovered human remains on Saturday in the Angeles National Forest.

The remains of a male were found in the area of Big Tujunga Canyon Road, mile marker 2.72, near a shallow grave sheriffs had discovered a few days prior.

On Jan. 9, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau responded to the Big Tujunga Canyon area after hikers discovered what appeared to be a shallow grave.

There was a blood trail, but no evidence of remains, said Lt. Mike Rossen at the time of the discovery.

On Saturday, sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, along with the Montrose Search and Rescue Team, were searching the area of Big Tujunga Canyon Road near the shallow grave when they discovered human remains.

L.A. County Coroner’s Office Special Operations Response Team (SORT) responded to the area.

The Coroner’s Office has not released any other information concerning the remains as of press time.
