Coming off a loss to rival Arcadia, the Falcons girls’ soccer team seemed unfazed on Tuesday, arriving on the field swinging against Glendale High School.

CV’s relentless pressure resulted in 2-0 win on the road, and improved its record to 7-1 in the Pacific League (10-3-1 overall).

“We’re trying to bounce back as fast as we can, win the second half of the league,” said Coach Jorden Schulz. The Falcons are on top of the league standings. Arcadia and Burbank are tied for second with 6-1-1 records.

Midfielder Rachel Bird passed to Sierra Rhoads in the first half. Rhoads was unguarded for a header, blasting through the net for a 1-0 lead.

“She works very hard,” said Schulz of Rhoads.

Midfielder Grace Keller lobbed a ball to Sarah Worden, but Nitro Rachel Harman intercepted into her own net resulting in a goal for Glendale.

But the Falcons were not to be swayed and were relentless in their attack, but getting the second goal was elusive. Midfielder Brianna Agular had a clear shot on target, but the ball hit the top of the bar as it sailed wide.

“We need to put away the shots that need to be put away. If that were to happen [on Friday], the score [would have been] different,” Schulz said, referring to the team’s 2-0 loss against the Apaches.

The Falcons kept pushing but to no avail. Forward Sharon Lee shot from 18 yards, and though the goalkeeper dropped the ball from her hands, she managed to corral it with her feet.

The second half showcased a glimmer of hope for the Nitros, but the Falcons had possession of the ball for most the match.

Worden found Bird 10 yards from the goal, but was called offside by the referee.

Coach Schulz was obviously disappointed by Worden’s decision to not take the initiative and kick the ball herself.

“Just beat (the defender) and get a shot,” she shouted from the bench.

On the next possession, Rhoads took that advice as she dribbled past two defenders and shot 10 yards from the goalkeeper who dived to save it.

Overall, the Falcons had 15 shots on goal while he Nitros had only seven.

“I’m very confident in the backline,” Schulz said of her defense.

Rhoads, who was replacing Whitley Boller, had four shots on target including the first goal for the Falcons.

“She took some of the best shots today,” said Schulz.

The loss dropped Glendale’s record to 4-9 overall. The Falcons play at Muir on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

CV boys’ soccer beat Glendale on Tuesday 5-0. Pablo Sotillo scored four goals. The Falcons are 15-2-5 overall, 5-1-2 in league.
