UPDATE:
Four hikers were found safe and uninjured by Montrose Search and Rescue in the Strawberry Peak Trail area.
The four men had gone off the trail and found themselves stranded early in the evening on Sunday.
“Originally one [of the men] had a cellphone that worked [for a short time] and was able to contact the Crescenta Valley Station,” said Lt. Elisabeth Sachs. “We tried calling back but couldn’t get a hold of them.”
Throughout the Angeles National Forest cellphone reception is spotty.
Montrose Search and Rescue were called out and found the hikers on a cliff portion of Strawberry Peak Trail, it was cold and rainy. Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter assisted in the rescue and, due to the weather and their position, airlifted them from the area to safety.
MSR hiked back out of the area about 10 p.m.
